Apple plans to integrate Google’s Gemini AI model into its Apple Intelligence suite later this year, likely alongside the launch of iOS 19. Following Samsung’s early adoption of Gemini in the Galaxy S25 series, Apple has accelerated year-long negotiations with Google. According to CEO Sundar Pichai, both companies are close to finalizing the deal.
Currently, Apple uses OpenAI’s ChatGPT for select AI features in the iPhone 16 series. However, delays in delivering its promised AI tools have increased the urgency of this partnership. Compared to Samsung’s Gemini-powered capabilities, Apple Intelligence lags behind in performance and functionality. While this move could reduce Apple’s exclusivity, it’s a strategic step to bring iPhone’s AI features in line with market leaders.
The integration of Gemini is not a full replacement for Apple’s own tools but rather an additional option. Once Apple finishes developing its revamped Siri and other core features, it’s expected to refocus on its in-house solutions.
