Samsung find to drop full support for older galaxy phones running android 10 and below

Samsung is gradually ending support for older Galaxy devices in the Samsung Find app. According to reports, users running Android 10 (One UI 2.0) or earlier are now seeing a notice explaining that future versions of the app will no longer be fully supported on their devices.

The company says the move is intended to ensure the best possible experience, as newer features are increasingly dependent on modern Android versions. Existing installations will continue to work, but older devices may lose compatibility with newly added Galaxy products and will no longer receive feature updates or bug fixes.

The latest Samsung Find update (version 2.0.00.20) introduced several improvements, including a home screen widget for location tracking, satellite map view, and additional usability enhancements.

Older Galaxy devices affected

Many Galaxy smartphones that reached the end of their software support on Android 10 are impacted by this change. These include models such as the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, Galaxy Note9, Galaxy A6, Galaxy A6+, Galaxy A7, and other legacy devices.

Users who accidentally remove the app from unsupported phones can still reinstall a compatible version through the Galaxy Store or Google Play, although they will remain on the older release.

Upgrade required for new features

To continue receiving the latest Samsung Find capabilities, Galaxy devices must be running Android 11 or later. Users can check for available software updates by opening Settings → Software update → Check for updates.

Devices that cannot be upgraded beyond Android 10 will remain functional with limited support, but access to future improvements will be unavailable.

Samsung follows industry practice

While the decision may disappoint owners of older phones, it follows a common industry approach. As software platforms evolve, maintaining compatibility with outdated operating systems becomes increasingly difficult.

Interestingly, Google Find Hub currently supports a wider range of Android versions. Basic functionality remains available on devices running Android 6, while offline device tracking requires Android 9 or newer, giving Google's solution broader compatibility than Samsung's.

Samsung Find is Samsung's device location service that replaced the previous SmartThings Find experience. The app allows users to locate lost Galaxy smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and other compatible devices.

Among its key features are offline device tracking through nearby Galaxy devices, remote actions such as locking or ringing a lost phone, and family location sharing, making it one of Samsung's most important ecosystem applications.
