Samsung stops monthly updates for the Galaxy S21 series

Samsung has officially confirmed that the Galaxy S21 series will no longer receive monthly updates. This isn’t surprising, as these flagship devices are now four years old. While security patches will still be released, the update frequency will decrease.

The Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra will now receive updates only four times a year. However, the Galaxy S21 FE will continue to get monthly updates for now, but that will change early next year when it also becomes too old for frequent updates.

At launch, Samsung promised four years of major OS updates and five years of security patches for the Galaxy S21 series. The long-awaited Android 15 update has yet to arrive, but it’s expected in the coming weeks - this will be the last major OS upgrade for these devices.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S21 FE is eligible for one more major update, meaning it should receive Android 16 when Google releases it later this year. While the update might not arrive until 2025, the phone will remain relevant for at least another year.

For Samsung fans, upgrading from the Galaxy S24 to the S25 may not seem essential, but those still using the Galaxy S21 should seriously consider upgrading this year.
