The race for the thinnest smartphone is heating up, and Huawei is about to join in. Following a database leak that revealed some specs, a new promotional image of the Huawei Mate 70 Air has surfaced, giving us a clear look at its design.
The leaked photo shows a device that keeps the signature Mate 70 aesthetics but with a noticeably slimmer body. On the back sits a circular camera module featuring the XMAGE logo, while the frame appears polished and metallic. The rear panel texture looks similar to that of the Mate 70 Pro+, reinforcing its premium appeal.

Although details are limited, the Mate 70 Air seems positioned as a mid-range model. Early reports mentioned 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage, but the latest leak points to 16GB of RAM. It’s expected to feature a 6.9-inch display with 1.5K resolution and a 1/1.3-inch main camera sensor.
Unlike the iPhone Air, Huawei’s model will retain a physical SIM card slot and run HarmonyOS 5.1. The phone will come in black, white, and gold variants, with its debut likely in November alongside the Mate 80 lineup.

Huawei will face tough competition not only from Apple and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge but also from Motorola, which recently launched the X70 Air in China and the Edge 70 in Europe. However, the thin-phone trend may already be fading - iPhone Air sales are below expectations, and Samsung is reportedly scrapping the Galaxy S26 Edge.
Still, Huawei might succeed where others didn’t: by offering a slim, stylish, and more affordable device, the Mate 70 Air could reignite consumer interest in the ultra-thin smartphone category.
